Products

Do you use natural ingredients?

We pride ourselves on the quality of our products, the pure and natural ingredients we use, and the love and care with which they are made.

Our products are handmade in small batches, using traditional methods, so we know exactly what ingredients are included and where they come from. We choose ingredients for their powerful natural benefits and ensure they are sustainable and ethical.

Products are always made fresh so nothing stays on the shelf here for more than 3-4 days before it is sent to the customer.

Due to Colloidal Silver’s powerful antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties, it's the key ingredient in our topical products. This means we don’t have to use any nasty artificial preservatives or parabens to kill the bacteria, so you can rest assured our products are as natural and safe as they can be. However, it does mean that sometimes our best before dates are shorter than some high street brands.

Why are Active Silver products so good?

Our products work!! Check out our customer review page and each of our product pages for hundreds and hundreds of great reviews.

Active Silver is a family business, passionate about producing the highest quality and purest Colloidal Silver-based products. Our products and technologies are considered to be the best in the UK. We have over 25 years of experience and are constantly innovating and improving our Colloidal Silver techniques and are continually increasing our product range.

Are your products Vegan friendly? Do you test on animals?

All our ingredients and products are vegan-friendly and not tested on animals. See our declaration here

Active Silver is also PETA certified as a Vegan and Cruelty-Free brand.

How should I store Active Silver products?

We recommend you store Active Silver in a cool, dark place and out of reach of children.

Refrigeration is preferable to prolong shelf life (except for the lip balm), but freezing is not recommended. The products should not be exposed to direct sunlight.

Exposing the product to high temperatures for short periods (under 125 Fahrenheit) won’t affect the quality of the product, however storing any of our product in the car or on a window sill during summer is not advisable.

Best Before End dates are printed on the bottom of each product. You can still use the products after this date, it’s just a guideline to let you know when the product is at its optimum.

c. 24 months: Colloidal Silver

c.12 months: Colloidal Gold, Ear Drops, Eye Drops, Nasal Spray, Magic Gel Spray,
Skin Cleanse, Skin Wash, Serum, Hand Cream, Body Butter, Foot Cream

c. 9 months: Glow, Magic Gel, Lip Balm

c. 5 months: Hit the Spot

Best before dates are a guideline and can vary depending on storage conditions, particularly temperature and exposure to light. Therefore, best before end dates are considered as subjective; the BBE date given is based on the best of our knowledge and experience of the material when stored under recommended conditions in original unopened
containers.

All products are handmade in small batches each week, this ensures products have maximum BBE dates when sent out.  Due to the natural ingredients in our products, there may be a slight batch to batch variation in the colour, odour, or consistency. However, we ensure that this does not affect the quality and efficiency of the products in any way.

Is the product certified or regulated?

All products are independently lab-tested, safety assessed and fully compliant with EU cosmetic regulation 1223/2009.

We are registered on the GB Cosmetics Notification Portal (OPSS).

Colloidal silver is authorised for sale as a cosmetic product in the EU and UK, as long as the above regulation and testing is adhered to. Colloidal Silver is not permitted to be sold as a food supplement or medicine.

There is no regulation regarding the manufacturing processes for Colloidal Silver, and sadly there are some companies (or manufacturing kits) that have tarnished the reputation of this industry by trying to cut corners. Therefore some health organisations, to protect consumers, have ruled that the product is both ineffective and potentially dangerous, which is why there is so much conflicting information out there.

Can I use Active Silver if I'm on antibiotics or any other medication, or pregnant?

We would always advise you to speak to your doctor or health care practitioner. There are no reported side effects or reactions to most medications. The only exception we are aware of is that Colloidal Silver, in some cases, can affect your body’s ability to absorb thyroid medication so we would advise you to not ingest Colloidal Silver if on thyroid medication – but we understand it should be ok to use our products topically.

Colloidal Silver has been known to actually help enhance the effectiveness of antibiotics and we’ve heard some antibiotics are now being coated in silver!

We advise that you speak to your health care professional if you have any concerns about using our products while pregnant.

Using our products topically on your skin should not cause any issues at all. We usually recommend to do what Lucy Roberts, MD of Active Silver, did during all three of her pregnancies, which was to use topical products freely. However she only consumed Active Silver Colloidal Silver as and when she really needed it, to treat at specific ailments such as cough, cold, sore throat etc.

Will Active Silver destroy the good/friendly bacteria or probiotics I need (i.e flora) in my intestines?

Assuming the right concentration has been taken, and you are using a good quality colloidal silver made of nano-sized particles, the Colloidal Silver will be rapidly absorbed and dispersed through the body and/or into the upper gastrointestinal tract first, leaving very little or none to interact with the beneficial ‘good’ bacteria in our gut.

Most people have not reported that their good bacteria changed, and anecdotal evidence is that colloidal silver does not kill good bacteria. However, as there’s no definitive study it’s best to monitor your own experience and adjust accordingly.

Is Aloe Vera Gel safe for animals, and can I use your products on my pets?

Yes. Our Aloe Vera Gel is made from the inner part of the aloe leaf, as this possesses the majority of the leaf’s nutrients and is therefore safe to use. The poisonous part of true aloe is the white latex, not the gelatin held within the leaves. Fortunately, the vast majority of Aloe Vera products you would buy, have had any toxic latex removed during processing. For more information about our Aloe Vera Gel ingredients and how it’s made, click here..

Our products are very effective and are often a cheaper alternative than what you get from the Vet. The Ear and Eye drops are particularly popular, as is the Magic Gel and Skin Cleanse for wound care and skin irritations. Click here to see our Animal Care range.

Both our Animal Care range and our standard Health Care collection can be used on animals and humans.

The reason we have different packaging is because some customers like to differentiate between the two, knowing which product is being used by who.

We also have wholesalers who like to be able to market the animal care range for pet shops etc.

Will Active Silver products suit my skin?

All products contain natural ingredients so they should be kind and gentle on your skin.

However if you have sensitive skin or allergies, please do make sure you check the ingredients before purchasing, and we would also recommend a patch test if you are at all worried by perhaps starting with our sample or 12ml sizes.

If your skin reacts to the products, allow some time for your skin to adapt to using them. Any questions, please contact us.

Colloidal Silver

Is it safe?

As silver is found as a naturally occurring trace element it has been used for thousands of years as a natural way to support good health.

Active Silver’s Advanced Colloidal Silver has a wide spectrum health benefits and no known side effects or reaction with other medications.

Make sure your Colloidal Silver is from a reputable manufacturer. Products with a high parts per million (ppm) concentration of silver (we would anything say over 15ppm) are not necessary and should be avoided.

Colloidal silver is clear in colour or may have a very slight pale hue. Darker colours (yellow or amber) can be an indication of large particles of silver that reflect light, added compounds (salts/proteins) that some people may use to speed up the manufacturing, oxidation or other impurities. Clear colloidal silver indicates a smaller particle size, and small particle size is key for an effective Colloidal Silver as it is easier for the body to absorb, process and eliminate.

What concentration level are your products?

At Active Silver, our Colloidal Silver is produced at a concentration of 10ppm (parts per million), with the silver particle size between 0.0005 to 0.005 microns.  It’s often thought that Colloidal Silver made at a higher concentration (20, 30ppm or more) will have more silver and therefore be more effective. This ppm is ok for using topically, but this isn’t actually the case if you are 'ingesting' silver.  The particle size is the most important factor here, so if the parts per million goes over 10, it’s very difficult to continue to produce a consistent small particle size due to the way the electrolysis process works.

It’s the very small particle size of silver that we produce that makes Active Silver so effective.  The smaller the particle size, the greater the surface area of silver for interaction, making it easy for the body/skin to absorb, process and eliminate. Once Colloidal Silver goes above 10ppm, the particle sizes get bigger and it becomes less effective when ingesting.

Taking Colloidal Silver at the wrong concentration and dosage is not advisable.

Our Nasal Spray and Eye Drops are 10ppm, like the Colloidal Silver sprays.

The Ear Drops contain 25ppm Colloidal Silver. The Colloidal Gold is c.30ppm. All skin care/topical products are made with 25ppm Colloidal Silver. This is because we want the particles to stay on top of the skin for our skin care.

Learn more about PPM here.

What is the history of Colloidal Silver and how does it work?

What is the history of Colloidal Silver?

Silver has been used for thousands of years as a natural medicine. It is a natural mineral, which we used to get from the soil through our food, however, due to extensive cultivation, the natural minerals in our soil have been seriously depleted.

Often, people who live in areas with rich unspoilt soil, live healthier lives and have a stronger immune system. Roman soldiers were known to put silver coins in their mouths to protect them from illness, and silver coins were commonly added to vessels to keep water fresh and milk from spoiling. Food was stored by the wealthy in silver containers to keep bacteria from growing. Silver utensils, plates and drinking cups have protected Kings, Emperors and the very wealthy for generations, by the minute particles of silver that wore off and mixed with their food, therefore helping them fight diseases and live longer.

At the beginning of the 20th Century, Colloidal Silver was used extensively by medical practitioners as it proved to be enormously effective against bacteria.  The use and research into colloidal silver declined after 1938 when antibiotics were introduced, however not even 100 years on and we are seeing some significant resistance to antibiotics. Since the 1970’s there has been a renewed and growing interest in Colloidal Silver.

Today, homoeopathic practitioners regularly use silver in their treatments.  In the USA, silver is used in bone surgery and by 70% of burns centres. Japanese companies are using silver to remove cyanide and nitric oxide from the air.  NASA use a silver water system in its space shuttles, and many airline companies use silver water filters to curtail waterborne diseases.  Silver is also added to the water in many hospitals and public buildings in the UK to treat and prevent Legionellosis (Legionnaires disease) and other water borne bacteria and viruses.

How does it work?

Like with anything in life, nature seeks to be balanced or neutral.  In our bodies there are good and bad bacteria.  A good bacteria helps our body function and is well balanced, having equal amounts of positive and negative electrical charges (ions). Bad bacteria is out of balance because it has more negative than positive ions.

The silver particles in our Colloidal Silver are positively charged. Once ingested or coming into contact with skin, the positively charged Colloidal Silver is then attracted to and seeks out the spare negative ions in bad bacteria (like a magnet). The Colloidal Silver rips the negative electrons away from the bad bacteria which makes it collapse, suffocate and die. It is then cleared out of the body by the immune, lymphatic and elimination systems.

The good thing about this process is that the bad bacteria can’t build up a resistance to the Colloidal Silver. Also, assuming the right concentration has been taken, the Colloidal Silver is absorbed rapidly into the upper gastrointestinal tract, leaving very little or none to interact with the beneficial ‘good’ bacteria in our intestines which are needed for our body to function effectively.

People are building resistance to modern antibiotics and also these antibiotics kill the friendly bacteria we need in our gut, which is why more people are turning to Colloidal Silver.  Interestingly Colloidal Silver is known to actually help enhance the effectiveness of antibiotics too.

Colloidal Silver is non-toxic and safe for humans, reptiles, animals, plants and all multi-celled living matter.

What is Argyria, can I turn blue?

There is a myth that your skin could turn blue. This is exactly that. There are many home-brew kits or people who don’t manufacture Colloidal Silver correctly which give it a bad name. Argyria, a blue/grey discolouration of the skin, is a very very rare condition from over-exposure to extreme quantities of silver from silver salts, silver compounds or inhaled silver powder, and is not something you can get from well-made Colloidal Silver.

Argyria may stem from inhalation exposure in work environments creating silver dust, from prescribed medicines using a silver mineral salt or an organic silver salt, or treatment of extensive burns with silver sulfadiazine. The most common event stems from homemade preparations, which attempt to make “colloidal silver” in water containing halides, especially chlorine. Silver chloride has a dull white color as it forms in water. Silver chloride is currently the most common salt associated with cases of argyria.

Active Silver has never been reported to cause a single case of Argyria and will never do so. This is because we use an advanced manufacturing technique to produce Colloidal Silver at a concentration of 10-25ppm with a very small particle size of silver. We also never use Protein Synthesis to blend silver and water, which can cause Argyria and be dangerous.

Definition of Argyria (Greek: ἄργυρος argyros silver + -ia) is a non-toxic, benign cosmetic condition caused by the ingestion of silver salts, silver compounds or silver dust which then react with ultra-violet light and results in a bluish coloration within the skin or sclera.) It can really only occur in the presence of extreme negligence and ingestion of Colloidal Silver made using impure silver or protein synthesis.

Some people do add salt to their colloidal silver to make it ‘brew’ quicker but this is most definitely not best practice! It’s these people and home brew kits, that can give Colloidal Silver a bad name. But that said, there have been very very few cases of Argyria as a result of using homemade forms of Colloidal Silver or very high concentration of silver products such as 100ppm or higher. At Active Silver we don’t deem anything over 25ppm as safe to use because the particle size of the silver will be too large.

What is Protein synthesis? These are silver solutions typically made by blending silver powder and water and have very large silver particles yet lowest surface area of silver particles, which makes this solution the least bioavailable or able to be absorbed. These are the products known to be very dangerous and are known to cause Argyria, or Blue Man Syndrome. You can spot protein synthesized silver products because they foam heavily when shaken and the foam remains for quite a while. These products also typically have extremely high strengths, some as high as 20,000 parts per million (ppm). Please do not buy or use any product you suspect of being a protein synthesis.

Is your packaging eco-friendly?

Where we can, we use recycled, recyclable, and biodegradable materials. We are constantly striving to be more environmentally friendly.

Glass - we use glass bottles and glass jars for most of our products - they look beautiful, and they are easily recycled too. We use ‘Miron’ glass for almost all of our jars (except the 12ml pots). Miron glass improves product shelf life and therefore preserves its effectiveness. It has a unique ability to protect its contents from sunlight as it filters out harmful visible light and only lets UV, violet and infrared light enter. As silver is a light-sensitive substance, this is fundamental to maintaining the quality of our products. The Miron glass can also be recycled (with brown glass), or you can reuse the jars for your own purposes.

Plastic – we use PET/PP plastic containers for 12ml mini pots, nasal sprays, ear and eye drops, and 100ml pumps which are safe and can be recycled.

These are all BPA free, PET plastic which is safe and can be recycled, as well as being lightweight, so good for travel.

PET plastic is widely accepted by health authorities as a safe plastic. It is approved as safe for food and beverage contact by FDA and similar regulatory agencies throughout the world.  Similar to glass, it is hygienic and generally resistant to attack by bacteria and other microorganisms. BPA free means there are no chemical phthalates or bisphenol A (BPA).

Envelopes and postal packaging – we use recycled, recyclable and biodegradable materials where possible. We do our best to use eco-friendly alternatives, yet when sending out glass items, we do have to ensure protection against breakages.

Are your products made in the UK?

Yes. We make all our products at our HQ in Berkshire, England. We also fill all our products into bottles and jars here, and then they are packaged and posted out directly to our lovely customers. This gives us full control over the processes and quality of our end products.

Being UK-based also means we adhere to UK/ European cosmetic standards. Our products are fully compliant with EU Cosmetic Regulation 1233/2009 and we are registered on the GB Cosmetics Notification Portal (OPSS)
