Shingles can be incredibly excruciating and difficult to get rid of! It’s caused by the varicella zoster virus – the same virus that causes chickenpox. What is quite unique, is that the Shingles virus likes to "hibernate" in the nerve cells of your body and this is why it is so painful when they finally become active. Their renewed activity apparently can cause severe irritation and inflammation to the nerves, so, no wonder it’s very painful!
Colloidal Silver as a relief against shingles
There are quite a few testimonials from colloidal silver users over the years who have said it's helped immensely with shingles outbreaks. While there have been no clinical studies on this subject that we know of, the anecdotal evidence is pretty compelling.
In a book called Prescriptions for Natural Healing by Phyllis A. Balch and husband Dr. James F. Balch, M.D., state that colloidal silver is indeed effective for treating shingles.
And according to a very old issue of the British Medical Journal (December 15, 1917), researcher J. Mark Hovell wrote:
“Colloidal silver has also been used successfully in septic conditions of the mouth (including pyorrhea alveolysis - Rigg's disease), throat (including tonsillitis and quincies), ear (includingMenier's symptoms and closure to Valsalva's inflation), and in generalized septicemia, leucorrhea, cystitis, whooping cough and shingles."
So how does it work?
The smaller the silver particles, the more easily they can penetrate the virus itself, meaning the shingles virus is unable to replicate. This is why we make our Colloidal Silver (Active Silver) at 10 parts per million, because it means we can produce silver particles at 0.0005 to 0.005 microns (very very very small!)
However, even at this micro level, it’s very difficult to get colloidal silver deep into the nerve cells where the viruses dwell in their dormant state, as the nerves are protected by the myelin sheath which acts as "insulation" to the nerves.
Nevertheless, based upon numerous anecdotes, shingles victims have used colloidal silver successfully. I read somewhere that apparently, once the viruses become active, the silver appears to be effective in killing many, and driving the rest back into their dormant state.
Many researchers say colloidal silver also helps stimulate immunity, which is important, because lowered immunity is often one reason why the shingles virus can become active from its normally dormant state.
It’s for all the reasons above that I believe that when colloidal silver is used daily, in small amounts (i.e., one teaspoonful to one tablespoonful per day) between shingles outbreaks, the length of time between those outbreaks is often dramatically increased, with many people saying they can go for years without another shingles outbreak. If another outbreak does occur, the duration and severity is often dramatically lessened.
Colloidal Silver application
For a shingles outbreak, we’d suggest topical application (using the Active Silver solution or the Active Silver Gel) as well as orally taking the solution. It’s up to you how regularly you take it orally, however for serious outbreaks I have known people to take a teaspoon every 1-4 hours and applying it to the skin 3-5 times a day. I’ve seen it recommended for Shingles that this dosage is used for 7-10 days, before dropping down to a daily dosage of 5ml thereafter (for the reasons mentioned above).
As a reminder, when taking Colloidal Silver orally, it’s advised that you swill it around your mouth before swallowing to increase absorption.
